The Ignatian Journey: A Spiritual Adventure

Laura Longville

I love adventure! I'm always up for a hike to new mountaintops or a trip to an unfamiliar land, such as my recent trip to Morocco! Even well-known places feel brand new when I approach them with an adventurous spirit.

If you're like me, you might wonder if there's a way to bring that same sense of adventure to your spiritual life. The good news is, there is! The Ignatian Journey is a spiritual expedition that can help you deepen your relationship with God and discover your true purpose.

The Ignatian Journey is based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. These exercises are a series of contemplative and prayerful reflections that help you to grow in your knowledge of God and yourself. They are designed to be done over an eight- to nine-month period with the guidance of a spiritual director.

The Ignatian Journey is often described as a spiritual adventure because it takes you on a journey of discovery. As you go through the exercises, you will be invited to reflect on your life, relationships, and deepest desires. You will also be invited to imagine yourself in the life of Jesus and to see how God is calling you to live your life.

The Ignatian Journey can be challenging. It can be thought-provoking to face your own darkness and let go of old ways of thinking. But it is also a journey of great joy and transformation. As you grow in your relationship with God, you will come to know yourself more deeply and gain clarity on your life's mission.

Key Dynamics

Here are some of the key dynamics of the Ignatian Journey:

  • The dynamic of two people falling in love: The Ignatian Journey is a process of falling in love with God. It is a time of deep intimacy and connection with the Triune God.

  • The dynamic of discovering one's identity: The Ignatian Journey helps you to discover your true identity in God. You will come to know yourself as a beloved child of God, with a unique purpose in life.

  • The dynamic of God's desires being planted in one's heart: The Ignatian Journey helps you to discern God's will for your life. You will be invited to ask God for the graces you need to live your life following his will.

  • The dynamic of identifying and making choices: The Ignatian Journey helps you make choices aligned with God's will. You will be invited to listen to God's voice and follow his guidance.

If you're ready to embark on a spiritual adventure, I encourage you to consider the Ignatian Journey. It is a journey that can change your life. The 8-9 month journey begins mid-September, and if you’d like more information click this link or email me, Laura Longville.
